Porthcawl Indoor Bowls Club

Short-mat Indoor Bowls

Porthcawl Indoor Bowling Club is a mixed club that plays organised indoor bowls games on what is called short mats. Short mat bowls is played all over the world. It does not need a purpose built indoor bowling green. Instead temporary short mats are rolled down in any suitable multi purpose hall. We are a mixed club that welcomes all ages. However most of the existing membership consist of retired couples.

Teams are organised to play through the indoor season. For this reason new members should join by the start of the season, which is 15th of August. Teams can then be organised by the start of the season and a programme of internal matches prepared for the seasons games.

The actual games season starts in October and end in April. Those contemplating joining for next season are welcome to come and watch.

The venue is the Awel y Mor Centre, Wellfield Avenue. Fours teams have matches that are held on alternate Wednesdays, and Triples teams have matches that are held every Sunday. All matches take place from 6.00pm to 8.00pm.

If you are interested in joining either come to watch and give your details, or send them by e-mail to Mr Derrick Griffiths.

Members are required to supply their own bowls and wear no-heel bowling shoes when bowling on the mats.

There are no serious interclub league matches and the objective is enjoyment and friendship. The club does organise a few in-season social events and trips etc.
