The Bridgend and District Caledonian Society was founded in 1959 when two Glaswegians Don McArthur and Eddie Fannan met whilst working in the Park Place Hotel in Cardiff. The Caledonian Society of Cardiff were holding one of their functions there. From that meeting the seeds were planted, and it was decided to contact Scottish friends and colleagues they knew in and around Bridgend who were working in the steel works and the paper mills. The secretary of the Cardiff branch gave us all the incentive and assistance we needed to call the first meeting. And so from that first meeting of 14 members in 1959 we still continue to this day. Sadly there are only 4 of the original members still with us. |
