Saxophone Tutor

David Potter - a music teacher specialising in saxophone for beginners and improving players in Bridgend.

As with any musical instrument, it can take years to become a really good saxophonist; however, the saxophone is one of the most learner friendly of musical instruments on which to get started. While the instrument itself looks complicated, it’s far easier than it looks.

It doesn’t matter if you can’t read music and you don`t need to have studied music theory. It isn’t difficult to pick up the saxophone basics. As you learn how to play each note on the saxophone, you will find that you will quickly learn how to read music for yourself. Many music books also have accompanying CDs, so you can hear how the written music should be played as well as reading from the score. These CDs usually include backing tracks for you to play along to.

I have tutored numerous students from the Bridgend area and most of them started out as complete beginners who had never played a musical instrument before and could not read music. As I am based in Bridgend, lessons are conducted in your own home in a relaxed, friendly manner and provide the techniques that are the basis for subsequent practice. Lessons are tailored to the needs of individual students, allowing each to progress at his or her own pace. Above all, my aim is to help make learning the saxophone an enjoyable experience.

Students are encouraged to play music in a variety of styles including classical, pop and jazz, including jazz improvisation. You should note that I do not currently offer the ABRSM/GSM exam syllabus.
