mirus is a not for profit charity that provides specialist support to people who have disabilities.

The Volunteer Initiative in the Bridgend area aims to recruit volunteer Befrienders who will enable those who have a disability to access social and leisure opportunities.

Befrienders will help to promote personal choice, increase self-respect, support existing personal skills and the development of new opportunities.

Befrienders visit people in their own homes or in the community to provide companionship, support and help them to feel part of the community.

Some typical activities include:-
Going for a coffee and a chat
Walks in the countryside
Going to the cinema or theatre
Watching rugby
Joining-in with activities in the community
Doing arts and crafts
We are looking for volunteers, aged 18 or over, who are able to give their time, on a weekly or fortnightly basis, preferably for at least 6 months. Training, induction and ongoing support will be provided though a Volunteer Coordinator. This is a voluntary role, however to out of pocket expenses - such as travel, entry fees or light refreshments - will also be provided.
