The Bridgend Fairtrade Borough Campaign is run by a steering group of local volunteers. We are deeply concerned about the way large multi-national companies exploit disadvantaged farmers and workers in developing countries.
FACT: every 3 seconds a child dies unnecessarily because of extreme poverty.
FACT: Approximately 51% of the cocoa used in non-Fair Trade chocolate is produced on plantations in the Ivory Coast using brutal child slavery.
The FAIRTRADE Mark is an independent consumer label which appears on products as a guarantee that disadvantaged farmers and worker in the developing world are getting a fair deal.
The group exists to try to encourage more people in Bridgend to use products bear the FAIRTRADE Mark (see above logo).
We are currently working towards an award that will give Bridgend FAIRTRADE BOROUGH status.
