Scope Cymru is the Wales arm of the national disability charity whose focus is cerebral palsy. We work for disabled people, their families and carers. The aim of Scope is that disabled people achieve equality, a society in which the are as valued and have the same human and civil rights as everyone else.
The Rees Centre in Kenfig Hill is a fully accessible community building which is base to the Bridgend Inclusion Project, Community Choices Project and the Sharing Art Project. We have five staff on these projects and seven volunteers. The Bridgend Inclusion Projectis Big Lottery funded and is well into the first year. However, we are very keen to recruit more volunteers so support disabled people in the Bridgend area to have opportunities to access the facilites in their local community. This could be sporting, leisure, educational, recreational, anything that the disabled person would like to do. Disabled volunteers are welcomed and we will make the necessary adjustments and support to enable them to fulfil this role. The centre is a resource for disabled people to get information, advice and support. Community Choices Project covers Rhondda Cynon Taff and Sharing Art is operated at the centre one day a week by volunteers, some of whom are, themselves, disabled. This project enables disabled people to explore their creativity in a positive and enabling environment.
Bridgend Inclusion Project
This Big Lottery funded project is coming to the end of the first year and we are now recruiting more volunteers to join our team. Our volunteers support disabled people in using the facilities in their local communities. Some of the activities carried out over the last year include sport, social events, further education, making new friends, cinema and theatre. All you need to be a volunteer is a few spare hours a week. We will ensure that the experience is a fulfilling and enjoyable one. We will train you and support you in carrying out the role. We will pay any expenses neeeded, including travel expenses. If you would like more information about joining our friendly group of volunteers and clients, or know someone who might be interested please contact Lynda Fancis on 01656 741166 or firstname.lastname@example.org
